5.45 is scarce as hens teeth. So I, picking the absolute best time to get into AK74's, have limited options for ammo. Initially my idea after the first range trip was to scrounge some other loads, other mags, and do a comprehensive review, actual accuracy testing, chronographing, the whole shebang.

But i decided to ask the MFG for input. That was a mistake.

I sent them a message stating the issues i had, and this was their response

Now i really don't like to toot my own horn. I don't like to claim that "I'm in the industry". I hate people that throw their weight around, and to be honest, I'm basically a nobody. I just barely qualify to get a SHOT show invite.

But i do have some ideas on how to shoot. I'm no PRS guy, but i got the basics down well enough. Case in point, i shot this group with a Zastava M70 at 50 yards with iron sights

Here's a small sampling of the issues i encountered with this ammo

I have some more on the way, along with hornady, plus some magpul and surplus bakelite mags. We'll see how it goes, but damn.

    Case head is stamped 5.45x39 050 24

Digging through some of the fired casings i found some intresting things

Primer is sunk inwards maybe 2-3 millimeters, still has signs of over pressure, as does every other case I've looked at i found 2 cases that had sunken primers, and 1 case that has a split neck

I treated the ammo as corrosive, so i put water through the gun and scrubbed the bore. Good thing i did.

This was one of my other casings

Other casings had what may have been smaller specks of rust, but i couldn't for sure tell.

Definitely A shit response from them. After re-reading the dude who responded is a blowhard. From your email they could have tried replicating the issues, asked for the ammo to be tested, or taken it as feedback and instead they decided to be dicks about it as if you're talking shit about their mothers.

Sounds like you are having fun though. I sold my Arsenal 104 AK about two years back only 40 rounds through her since I stopped shooting at all and it is still to date the best feeling I've had holding a Rifle.

I usually have a couple bottles of the eye glass cleaner they give you when you get glasses. Was taught to use that (windex/cleaning solution) for BP pistols/rifles as it buys you time till you can give it a detailed cleaning.

Tela Impex is the importer of TelaAmmo which is made in a former Soviet ammo factory in Azerbaijan. If I had to pick a poor performing ex-Soviet ammo factory, I would probably put my money on one from that part of the former Soviet Union.

Tela Impex is the importer, however by contacting them, it seems to put me in touch with the actual manufacturer, or at least with someone who isn't a native English speaker.

Against my better judgment i sent them another message. We'll see how it goes.
