I was trying to think of how to express that Lady's philosophy, and it took my ramblings to do it.
When a teacher tries to teach you what to think, instead of how to think an learn FOR YOURSELF, then that teacher has FAILED.

I guess those homeschooled founding fathers did it wrong.
the Founding Fathers didn't have differential equations. :spank:
Except of course they weren't home schooled.

It wasn't the German immigrants who founded this country. Also Germans and German immigrants are very welcoming of many forms of state control.
Really? They were down with state control? Prove it. They were wondrously good at helping us with WWI and WWII.

Today I learned there are 5 founding fathers.

Yes. Germans were typically more receptive to government than many others. You could argue it was based on the community level. I wasnt talking about either world war. Was describing the German experience and much of prairie socialism in the upper Midwest.

Again you're making statements without something called...proof.

Analyze voting and immigration trends in the upper midwest from 1840-1900. That should keep you busy for awhile.

You want me to throw out some statistics and say "see, told you so!" What does that benefit either of us.

Translation: you still haven't provided any proof. Its kind of important, when calling millions of immigrants socialists (before socialism was cool) to actually have proof to support it. Considering lots of them ended up here, and we're not known for being that type of state, again please support your argument.

Having said that it doesn't matter actually. It was just an interesting tidbit I had picked up. regardless, the US was one of the forerunners of public education. It is difficult to find a functioning first world state that does not have a strong public education system.

In contrast, states such as Pakistan, don't.

Arguably much of the roots for public education came from German immigrants who were strongly in favor of education, and central Europeans who came to the US, so as not to be kept down by royalty and availed themselves of education as that had been a exclusive hallmark of the rich in the old countries.

German immigrants were more receptive to government in our country than many other groups. Read about the Farmers Alliance, the Farmer Labor party and prairie populist movements and you will see all sorts of German names advocating agrarian socialism. Im not bashing Germans. I have an uncle named Adolph...no kidding.

From what ive studied public education as we know it was sold to the protestants by the cities and states as an alternative to Catholic education in the Northeast.

Im done yo. Im not arguing just to argue. Cannot stand that. Not going back and forth throwing facts at each other without discussing the political and historical context in which those facts resided.

I do find it wild that I as a conservative want nothing to do with government education but so many who self identify as libertarians are fine with it.

I may start a thread on public funds supporting non-public and religious schools as that is a hot issue here in Texas. Hope to see you over there and perhaps we can revisit this topic.
