    Friends,

IF you have good/used MEDIUM Regular or Long Army Woodland BDU trousers for sale, I would like to buy at least 2 pairs.
(I would buy up to 6 pairs, if the price is right.)

No surplus stores in your area? I've had good luck there buying dirt cheap BDUs. Just takes a bit of hunting though the racks to find the right size and make sure the colors kind of match.

    jeepinbanditrider,

LOTS of "surplus stores" around San Antonio but they mostly want more than new prices for Army BDU trousers. - Because a store describes itself as a "surplus store" doesn't mean that their prices are low OR that what they sell is actually military surplus or even conforms to government specs.
(One REAL "army surplus store" in Killeen advertised that they had the trousers but when I emailed the store I got a response that all 100+ pairs were sold in 2 days.)

Fyi, I've called several & emailed the several "surplus dealers" on craigslist & found NO Medium regulars or longs.

    majormadmax,

TRUE. = I had about a dozen sets of BDU when I retired but gave them away to one of my junior MPs who didn't have the $$$$$ to buy his own, without going hungry.
(I find it SHAMEFUL that we have married GIs, who qualify for food stamps & WIC.)

Sorry but that's a self inflicted personal decision.

BDU's at army surplus are Popper brand. If you can locate true government contract BDUs (that don't fade from washing) They're in off ball sizes. Like small short. Tiny stuff issued to the small females..

Don't get me wrong. BDU pants are my favorite go to. However, modern camo technology has taken over.

I highly suggest Multicam. Army surplus has it all, from goretex to the newest soft fleece. Multicam is more advanced then the woodland pattern.

From what I've noticed. It's all rip stop. Close to the BDU pattern. Same, extra material for butt sliding. Two extra pockets near the calves.

Comparing the two. Multicam puts woodland to shame.

That's not my point. I did my 20 and had to deal with this problem over and over while I was in. It's called financial responsibility. Name me any business outside the military who gives you a pay raise when you get married. There isn't one but when PVT Snuffy gets hitched suddenly it's a tragedy because he can't support his family.

I've got another decade of service on you. = 30 years, for whatever little that's worth.

I just think that it's rather sad that we pay our 1st 3 grades of SM & junior NCOs so little that almost 25% are on food stamps/WIC/other "public assistance" programs. = The AF pay E1-E3 (& who are living in the barracks/eating at the mess hall enough) BUT we have "a married volunteer service" today & the pay-scale (imo) should reflect that reality.

I'll split the difference between the two of you with 25 years, but I'll trump you with another 10+ as a defense contractor! :D

Sorry, but I can't shed any tears for a lot of the lower enlisted (and I was one myself, by the way) when I see how many of them live. When I was a captain I had 30 enlisted folks working for me and do you know who drove the oldest/cheapest car in the unit? Yours truly.

It's about having a budget. A married E-4 with two small kids can survive on that pay as long as they don't have to have the latest/greatest iPhone (as most do), a large screen TV and/or the latest game console. Most installations have housing available for these troops where rent and utilities are paid for. If they make an effort to live within their means, they can do so comfortable; but too many spend beyond their means then complain about their financial situation.

That said, I will agree the we as a country don't pay anyone who serves in uniform enough. That goes for cops, EMTs and firefighters as well. You can also add teachers into that group (even though they don't wear uniforms). Professional football, baseball and basketball players get insane amounts of money for playing a game; but people who put their lives on the line make little more than someone who stocks shelves at the grocery store. And, since I am now paying for that "free" health care I was promised when I joined 35+ years ago, I know it's only going to get worse.

But hopefully Trump will reverse the negative impact the current administration has had on the military for the past eight years. Obama never cared about those in uniform because they weren't a part of his socialist fan base. Same plays true for law enforcement, and both situations sicken me on a regular basis. Even if Trump is a lackluster president I will still respect him more simply because he stands behind those in uniform. It will be a refreshing change!

    majormadmax,

EXACTLY, though FEW of "my guys", when I had an MP company or was the PM, had a new/good-looking car. - Most had a old & "beat-up looking" POV, at least until/unless it was "rehabilitated" at the local/on-base Auto Craft Shop.

When we had a Resident Agency (one officer or WO & 8-10 enlisted agents) at Quantico Marine Base, you would be stunned to see some of the "beat-up junk" that over a few months became NICE-looking/GOOD-running cars, with paint, "scavenged"/"traded for"/trash-canned parts & a LOT of "elbow grease".
(One of the young Corporals & his Korean bride took a 1950 Chevy PU literally from the Triangle junk-yard & over about 6 months it became a NICE looking & dependable POV with "scrounged stuff", few "out of pocket" dollars & help from his buddies/the craft shop instructors . = His wife redid the interior using "recycled" blue jeans, which were bought "for peanuts" at thrift stores, for the upholstery materials!!)

Note: I plead "guilty as charged" to turning an abandoned & "unloved" 1962 Mercedes 4-door sedan, from the post PDO, into a respectable-looking "Q-Ship", using the engine/transmission out of a wrecked ambulance, about 4 decades ago in BRD. - My bride & her BGF rehabbed the interior, while 2 friends & I did the paint/body/mechanical work.- As most of the required parts were scavenged/"recycled", I probably had 500.oo cash in the old M-B, when we finished it.

    yours, satx
