I have several CZ Rifles and a bunch of Ruger 10/22s and some Savage and Remington Rimfires as well. I think Ruger is the best bet for rolling your own. I have not modified any CZ that I own. The only thing I have added to the CZ Rifles is a scope rail.

Another Tuesday Night at the Range (tm) today. With the new Wheeler FAT wrench that arrived Last week, I spent Saturday going over the three screws that matter and checking the scope rings. Tightened up the tension screw to 20 in-lbs as recommended by Ruger. Everything else checked.

Put 35 rounds down range tonight, using a homemade target to see how what happened if I changed my point of aim to accommodate the shitty glass on it right now. Pasted 5 1” squares onto the paper and went to work. Best group of the night:

While the c-t-c was good, the spread is what’s killing me. Lower left corner of the square was the point of aim. Doesn’t help the range rests arent very user ergonomic.

Topped of the 5-shot groups with a 10-shot group just to get a different sight picture and assessment of the ammo.

For this target, I essentially centered the circle as best as possible in the cross hairs and went to work.

Maybe I missed it, and I’m certainly too lazy to go back and look, but what ammo are you shooting and how did you settle upon that round?

Aguila Target. Did a shoot off against CCI & others. Will be starting over with the new platform when it arrives.

So thanks to Dad_Roman who was kind enough to share with me some excellent, detailed photos and his impressions, the top runner for the rifle looks to be a CZ 455 Varmint in 22LR. A huge component of the equation is the ability to swap calibers very easily, and very cheaply as the 455 action is modular in that a spacer is used in the mag well to accommodate the various magazine sizes.

As for the optic, the front runner is Vortex DB Tactical FFP in in either 4-14x44 or 6-24x50. Also being considered is the Primary Arms SLx3.5 4-14x44 FFP and the Athlon BTR 6-24x50.

Decision will be made by Friday.

The CZ should be a serious option for anyone trying to achieve your goals with your stated criteria. I agree with your glass options as well. The Masterpiece Arms 22BA (CZ 455 action based) is on my short list of contenders as my competition rifle for the 2019-2020 NRL22 series. While the article focuses on the CZ 455 Precision Trainer, Recoil magazine has an article online titled Four Tactical Rimfire Trainers Compared that may further solidify your choice based on their favorable review of that platform. I think you made a wise choice.

It’s a bit late in the game for this now...but are you aware of Connecticut Precision Chambering? Randy will have your 10/22 capable of your desired groups with plenty of money left over for other upgrades.

One suggestion would be to try running some Eley (Tenex, Match, and/or Target) to see how that works for you.

Eley is tops as far as 22lr ammo goes, well beyond just about anything else, but you'll pay a hefty premium for it. Further options would be looking at buying by the Lot to squeeze out as much consistency as possible.

    I have.

The voters (in the poll in post 1) selected new platform by a narrow margin.
