But a man that age who deliberately sets out to meet two preteen girls in a hotel room is a whole 'nother level of evil.

As an aside, it's my conjecture that as soon as he saw the cops, he knew his life was over. Pulling a gun in that situation is monumentally stupid. In that moment, it probably dawned on him that he would soon be admitting in court, in public, and explaining to his family, in private, that he liked diddling little kids. My guess is that he felt that death was preferable to that.

We'll never know for sure but it really looks to me like suicide by cop.
