While at the range today I got to see the development team from Black Optex, Euless, Tx working on their next gen BOSS-V (BLACK OPTEX SOLID STATE VIEWER). The BOSS-V is an all digital compact electro-optical viewer/recorder. It's C-MOS sensor detects visible, near-IR, and short wave IR from 400-1100 nanometers and can be used as a handheld, NVG, or weapon sight.
It includes 6X digital zoom, IR illuminator, digital compass, SXGA format (1280 X 1040), micro SD card storage, and Wi-Fi networking or USB port to separate monitor or hard drive.
This is all available on the current model.
The next gen model, which they are working on will include facial recognition software to locate and I.D. bad guys or hostages.
6 hr run time on two CR-123 batteries, price expected to be around 9K. Civilian sales are allowed.
