45-70's are fun. I didn't put this on in the least favorite gun thread because I like shooting it. It's light and full house loads hammer my shoulder but still fun.

Since OP is a useless pilgrim perhaps he should be shown a weapon from Texas history.
This is a modern reproduction of what is known as a McNelly Sharps carbine.

In the mid-1870’s Capt. Leander McNelly was tasked to clean up the Nueces Strip. This is the area between the Rio Grande river and the Nueces River in south Texas.
Infested with bandits and rustlers McNelly and his troop of Rangers used some hard tactics and Sharps carbines to remedy the situation. The book in the pictures is one of the rangers story.

If you look closely at the picture on the cover of the book you can see a McNelly Ranger with his Sharps carbine and sling.
The original guns were modified 1863 percussion models rechambered in the powerful .50-70.
The originals were marked with a T*S on the barrel.

Since this is sort of a .45-70 and Texas gun thread Moonpie thought it would be fun to show OP wusscake what a real mans gun looks like.
Bowing to modern convenience the repro is in .45-70.

I am trying to get caught up on missed threads since I just got back to town last night. I saw activity on this thread and came running in thinking @Sam7sf had finally pulled the trigger, so to speak, and bought his 45-70. I guess it’s because he just don’t like me and my recommendations.

I'm glad all of the heat is on you, Sam. I'm going to continue to try to fly under the radar about not having acquired a .44 yet. ;)
