joking aside, that is some scary stuff. We are just sitting ducks in space and theres nothing feasible that we could do. How could they not see this one coming when they can track 1/2" space junk bits circling the Earth?

Well if they is our government, maybe they did see it and didn't care since it's over Russia. Or maybe they called Russia and Russia didn't care.

Tracking stuff in a predictable orbit relatively close to the planet is different from spotting and tracking something screaming in from outer space at 68,000 mph.

So, over 700 people have been injured by the shockwave from the explosion breaking windows all over the city. There's only one answer. We have to ban glass windows. Think of the children.

Tracking earth-orbiting junk is one thing. That can be done with long-range radar. Deep space objects have to be seen, and seen over a period of time, so their orbit can be calculated. If the object is mainly rock and that rock is dark and doesn't reflect light, or very little light, it's difficult to spot visually. Not to mention that we don't have a lot of optical telescopes that have the resolution to be able to track dimly lit deep space objects. The last "close encounter" was on December 11th last year and they didn't see the damn thing until the 9th of December. That one passed us at 140,000 miles.

Matefrio, that's exactly what we're talking about. Why are you glorifying this culture of meteor violence? Why do you care more about giant death rocks from space than you do about children? We have to stop the violence!

Enough!!! Demand a plan!!!!!

We need good common sense legislation regulating high capacity shooting stars.

Where is Illegal Mayors Against Meteorites when you need them?

Asteroids belong on the battlefield, not in our streets. These things are millions of years old and times have changed. There is no longer any reason to have them around, that's what the police are for.
