I have the same truck (SLT) with 203k. I bought it at the auction about 2 1/2 years ago for $6500 and it had 160k.

Average retail BB now is $11,700. I'm a little surprised.

Have you considered a Suburu? Those things can manhandle rough terrain with no issues. They make some of the better vehicles out there at a lower price point for basic off-road use. I don't condone buying Asian cars but they are some fairly solid vehicles. A used Forester SUV could handle the roads there.

LG has always talked about a crew cab truck. Will probably stay in that area.

    Considered some yodas and Nissans.

I gotta believe, the toughest vehicle made today is a Toyota tacoma.
Wife's cousins are "wealthy" farmers/ranchers. They bought a few about 8 years ago. They're still running and working.
These people abuse a vehicle like nobody else.

And one of the safest cars on the road, and they hold their value.
That one looks exactly like the 2001 I bought my youngest daughter to go to college.
Had 92k mi in 2004, when bought for $10k; and 210k when she sold in 2013, for $3.8k.
Never had a wrench on it, just new tires.
Definitely an auto you want a loved one to drive.

There's a ton of'em on carmax. May look closer, can't ever remember if the Tundra or Tacoma is the full size.

Truck prices are crazy this year.

And I thought they were crazy when I started looking early last year.
USAA, who financed it, keeps telling me my 2013 RAM (31k/mi and still cherry), is worth almost $6k more (Private Seller Value) than I paid for it a year ago.
    Think they're blowing smoke ...

I always research cars based off of how much they are selling for off of the lot. That helps me determine with the KBB and NADA prices what I can expect that is reasonable versus a rip-off. Last four cars I have bought have all been either at invoice or slightly above but still far under MSRP.

Back on topic, if a pickup truck is a must, then the small ones like the Tacoma or Colorado are your best bet. Do NOT get a Dakota though. Based off of reviews and complaints those are some of the worst built trucks made in the USA. Then again, anything Chrysler Corp makes is generally worthless. I've had a Challenger SRT8 09 new off the lot have so many issues I ended up going and getting my Corvette. The Chrysler 200 my wife had was complete garbage with so many issues I lost count and the Dodge Nitro...yeah pos too.

Tundra is what I had my heart set on when I settled for the Ram.
There was one next to my truck in the parking lot at lunch today, and my heart skipped a beat...

Just too damned expensive for a work truck, and that was last year.

Tacoma is a good truck, just a bit small for my needs.
Toyota trucks do hold their value well.

Nah, I'll take a full size.
