That is a good answer to some question, but not the question I was asking. We were talking about situations where there is no reasonable suspicion or PC for a detention or arrest. I know we have to give ID upon arrest.

The answer here may be that Police simply aren't going to ask for your ID unless you are being detained or arrested.
I think the point that has been abundantly made is that they can....and do ask for ID....and we have said...and said again in many cases you are not required by law to provide it although it is usually a MUCH easier route to take.
Your view is simply that you are not going to do anything that isnt absolutely required by law. That is fine and your choice, it simply doesn't accomplish much except to alienate you and do a dis-servce to your cause (2A in this case). I have asked for ID literally hundreds if not thousands of times from people who were not detained nor arrested. It wasnt training or policy, simply an easy way to remember who I talked to about an issue. Its not near as big a deal as you make it out to be.
I understand you like to disect law, but what are you trying to prove?

I guess at post 283 I start to forget what we started talking about.

We agree people are not always REQUIRED to show ID but that it is often in their best interests to do so. Most dont have an issue or see it as being imposed upon but a few do.

Please dont let this thread get past post #300!

wow - there's not much gray in your life is there?

What do you mean? Legal or illegal, where is the gray area between them?

If people do things that are illegal, that makes them criminals, amirite? Where is the gray area between law-abiding and criminal?

There isn't much you post that's worth the keystrokes to post, is there?

I wonder how many personal attacks like this are in this thread?

I'd say his posts are as valuable as yours.

You did commit a violation, right? So now let's venture into the definition of criminal, followed by which way we shall perceive it. Follow the definition in spirit or black and white. Furthermore, if you been caught more than once we can all run around calling each other repeat offenders, maybe even establishing a automatic timeframe to erase prior offenses so as to not increase penalty for same offense. That sounds like fun, LOL. We can argue over the definition like Clinton trying to figure out what the definition of sex is, LOL.

Then we can move onto something important. Who thinks the Cowboys will win this year?

you arent a "criminal" until you've been convicted - look it up in the dictionary :)

regardless, i guess i missed the point he was trying to make with the broad brush statement that there is NO SUCH THING as a law abiding citizen
