Ben, sounds like a great truck for Somebody. Problem is, your name isn't Somebody. Sell it and buy something else with the cash. No payment, just an even swap. Having such low mileage will help you sell it.
This is an option. I drive it very little, just when I'm hauling something bulky or when I need to go over crappy roads. Thus, the mileage will stay low while I continue to do most of my driving in my Mercury Grand Marquis (which is more comfy, quicker, handles better, and has gotten up to 24 mpg on highway trips).Ben, sounds like a great truck for Somebody. That would solve the problem...if I was dedicated enough to make that kind of commitment. I'm not.Drop a V8 in it
13 MPG in a V-6? Had a Lariat with 5.4 Triton V8 and it would get 20 on the highway. I figured the V6 would do better than that.

Ultra low mileage are to avoided unless you plan on keeping them ultra low mileage.
Doubt you ever saw 20mpg with a Ford Triton V8 (rolleyes). My 02' Lincoln 5.4L InTech gets (at best) 12.1 mpg but it is AWD with no option for 2WD.
For an underpowered V6 getting 13pmg and missing desired options I would sell it like the previous three owners did. Find something you like with a V8.
Think about this, if the Merc breaks down you have a backup vehicle to drive. You'll look ridiculous trying to drive a trailerThis is an option. Something tells me the ultimate solution may be to sell the truck, install a tow hitch on the Mercury, and buy a small trailer. That would take care of the 3 or 4 times a year I *really* need to haul something. As for the bad roads, I can just drive slower.
Don't give a shit if you doubt 20mpg! Just stating a fact jack!
Did a little more checking and the "estimated" claims on the 4.6 were 19 hwy. Worse on the 5.4 to 17 hwy. In town 13 14.
Now, that's definitely another valid way to look at the situation. Thanks.Think about this...
This gross overgeneralization is just plain wrong. .
