    My parents did that with my sister. When she was little, she observed that the little girl across the street could get anything she wanted from her parents by holding her breath. Sis tried it once and my parents just said no. To her credit, sis was committed enough that she held her breath until she actually did pass out.

    She never pulled that crap again.

    I don't think anyone has ever died from holding their breath. Maybe holding their breath and diving too deep, or holding their breath and passing out in front of a speeding train, but not just from holding their breath. I'm not sure why parents would even bother giving in to a kid using that threat.
