You gotta be ballin' to buy name brand products these days.

HEB chips, HEB or Hill County Fare cheeses, HEB bread (deli bread if we want good stuff), HEB sodas and sparkling waters (I've made the transition from soda, to sweetened sparkling water, to unsweetened flavored sparkling water)
HEB branded food really is pretty good. = to or better than the big brands. I get their canned chili (no beans of course) for chili dogs. Really good as far as canned chili goes.

    RE: HEB and Drag Show:

One thing I am not is a SII, “single issue idiot.” HEB will continue to get my money as long as they stay the main course. The HEB family, worth an estimated $10 billion has been unbelievably good for Texas. For ages giving 5% of their profits to Texas schools, crippled children, Mexico business needs, served on many State and Federal committees. In one fell swoop gave $100 million for the good of Texans.

    Their philanthropy has been unbelievable:

Charles mother started the first State Crippled Children's Program. She served as chairwoman of the Cameron County Child Welfare Board, started the first tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment program in the region. Purchased the first equipment used to test the hearing and vision of schoolchildren. In 1949, she co-organized and hosted the first Conference of Texas Foundations and Trusts to coordinate philanthropic giving. And on and on.

January 2017, Charles pledged $100 million to Texas public education

Charles Butt pledged $50 million to the Raising Texas Teachers scholarship fund

September 2017, Butt donated $5 million to J. J. Watt's Houston Hurricane Harvey relief fund.

March 2024, Butt donated $500,000 to the State of Texas Agricultural Relief (STAR) Fund to aid Texas farmers and ranchers.

OK, so Charles who is now 86 and does not seem to ever have been married and donates to gay-dom children’s hour is deplorable to me as a straight guy that believes that convicted pedophiles should be hung ‘by the neck’. What do you think about the parents of those children who attend? If they didn’t have weird parents there would be no show.

I won’t let that incident wipe out all the HEB family has done for Texas, children, etc.

Add North Face to the companies that went full retard
Last year I went to REI in SATX. It was filled with advertising for diversity in outdoor activities. I was shocked that minorities didn't know where outside is or what to do there.

Already was. Several years ago they made a big deal about not selling products to oil companies because muh environment.

All their products are made from synthetic materials.

This is where a Hobson's choice must be made

Do you go with HEB and save some cash, and support Texan companies - do you go pay more (sometimes a LOT more) at say, Brookshire Brothers to do the same, or do you go give your money to the Waltons, or to Kroger or Albertsons/Safeway if you have one in your area?

I've started shopping at Brookshire Bros. more often. I may pay more, but I don't have to deal with the crowds and understaffed checkout lines. And I find that BB's meats and milk stay fresher longer than HEB & WM's brands.

If WINCO ever opened a store near us, we'd go there as they have good prices on most stuff and its employee owned but the closest ones to us are in the Dallas area.

I don't think there are many / any conservative or even just neutral grocers left. They're all run by lefties. At least they still sell meat, and haven't jumped on the ban-meat band wagon and push that nasty plant and chemical shit on us.
WinCo is never coming to central Texas. Every time a second grocery store tries to open in my town, HEB sends in it's lobbyists and lawyers and gets it shut down. They've paid for the campaigns of our (3rd term) mayor and the entire city council. Once the local paper revealed HEB was funding a group of "environmental activists" to protest a Randalls from being built. Like every other big company, they're dirty as hell. It just feels worse because they claim to espouse Christian values, but it's all bunk.

There are no alternatives anymore. Brand loyalty is a fools errand anymore. Maybe it always has been.

I buy out of convenience, products and cost. I used Kroger for my Pharmacy and shopping but their Pharmacy went to hell. I transfered to HEB and never a problem so now my shopping is split between the two. I have Kroger and HEB back to back in Conroe and the same in Willis. About the same distance to both. I believe HEB has more to offer but Kroger is set up better.
So regardless of their mindsets I have nowhere else to go. Walmart sucks

I stopped buying chips due to shrinkflation. Crackers, too.

    6 oz of flour shouldn't cost $4.89

I go to Aldi for a lot things including crackers. Their store brands are major brands under the Aldi store brand at a fraction of the cosst.
