Anyone own a Mossberg 88 Security #31023?

Mossbuerg Maverick 88 – Security #31046 retail = $238 - Not sure I want to pay more than retail for a used gun.

$199 list at Academy if they ever get them back in. They go on sale in better times. $300 with some ammo thrown in doesn't sound bad, depending on how much ammo you get. Not much on these guns to go bad used.

How old is the gun and how many rounds has gone through it? If you were local I would come take a look but I've been burned on used, not guns but other items.

I appreciate your offer and I'm sure your gun is in perfect condition. And the way the market is right now probably worth $300. But for now I think I'll wait until there is new stock at local stores for less than $200 bucks and just depend on my single shot 20ga and 357 for home protection. Thanks anyway deemus!

No worries. Wasn’t looking to sell, just thought I would offer. I’m guessing Academy will have them again in a few months.

You should check out a gun show. Be prepared to pay more then you think you should, but many guns are available at those shows. I bought my maverick 88 12 gauge security at one last year. I payed 200. I have shot it enough to trust it with its job as HD.

I have owned three different Maverick Model 88 shotguns and still have one currently. Two I bought used and sold to close friends that needed shotguns for home defense. The one I currently have I bought used for $125, in very decent condition. It's our go to shotgun for varmints of the two-legged or four-legged variety!

They are great decently priced shotguns.

Good info. Hopefully a gun show in my area will come up soon. I've afraid though currently there will be no HD shotguns available. Sure can't buy new right now.

Any shotgun can be a home defense shotgun. If you get a pump action from a reputable brand it will suit you fine. There are millions of the maverick 88’s out there, long and short barrel versions.

You can get the general purpose model, and purchase a compatible barrel at the length you want.

The Model 88's with 18" and 20" barrels usually are full choke barrels, fixed. The 26" and 28" barrels usually have screw-in choke tubes that you can remove and switch out with different chokes.

Do they have a link of 88s that are in stock? I have checked multiple stores and all say not in stock or back order.

Could be. Not 100% sure though. I was thinking they were full choked barrels. My Model 88 that has the 26" barrel has the interchangeable screw-in choke tubes. I think I have three different choke tubes for that shotgun.
