Reloaded about 300 rounds of .223and organized my loading area… found some 7.62x39 brass cases when separating brass and I think I will start this week to thinker with a subsonic load… not much info online but I do have some 160 FTX 30-30 bullets and some 170 Speer sp .308 that seem short enough to fit best in the case.
Anyone messed with this? I have 2400 , lil gun, h110 and some other powders that I might try.
Gun will be the Ruger American Ranch that I just got so I don’t care for cycling, just to be in the 1000fps .

Hmmm. Looking at my powder stores, if I wanted to do something like that I think I'd wind up either using a light load of 4895 or a full case of Trail Boss. Between the Lil Gun and the 2400, I feel sure you'll find something that works.

And you’re going to shoot them in your old mini 30?

Remember that in spec 7.62x39 is .311 diam.

Seems to be a waste of good bullets for something you will encourage even more inaccuracy.

Just as a point of interest, I've seen lots of .311 bullets fired through .308 bores with no problems. I've done it myself on many occasions.

But in the instant case, if the OP is handloading subsonics he can certainly match the bullet to the bore.

Yes it will go down range. Accurately not so much. Especially if he’s got an American ranch. To reload that way on purpose would definitely be a why moment.

I have some factory Winchester ammo loaded with 308 bullets. It’s older stuff. I don’t even think it says Winchester. There was a time when that was the way but down the road they started using actual 7.62x39 measurements in bores.

From my observations, .311 bullets fired through .308 bores tend to show little accuracy degradation. I'm guessing that's true since pretty much all the .311 ammo I've seen has been surplus/cheap stuff with poor accuracy potential, anyway.

Also from my observations, .308 bullets through .311 bores is a great way to turn 100 yard groups into really, really tight shotgun patterns. :)

It was my way of saying sometimes I’m too invested into an opinion that doesn’t matter. :) that’s what happens when you have too much free time.

Hey I shave my legs sometimes. It's only around the knees so that my Lidoderm patches will work better but, yes, sometimes a razor touches my legs.

    Oh, the humanity!

    :)

Read a bit more on the matter, seems as it’s not as easy as I thought. I need to source some more powders .
