It will need some good gusts to go along with or a lot of varying in speed a lot. At 100 typically all you will see is point of impact for the group move as a whole not string it out along a couple of inches.

    I said varying, lol.

Looks like it only spreads about 2" so shouldn't need much over 25 to push it there.

I didn't say my options were more likely, just bored and throwing it out there.

Understandable. I still have never seen that much at 100, variation will need to be great or going from no wind to 25. Farther out and it is a greater factor but usually farther than 250 is needed for a notice or a round with a very poor bc combined with slow velocity.

To cause a horizontal spread of 2.5" at 100 shown on the target with a 168gr bullet doing 2700 would take a 40mph full value wind. Trigger control or a mechanical problem is the issue with that group.

That would move the bullet 3".

And considering that the rifle has an 16.5" barrel I highly doubt he would be able to push a 168gr bullet up to 2700 FPS. Probably closer to 2500 FPS, maybe less depending on ammo.

The 25mph wind is based on the actual spread of the five rounds, which appears to be 2". A 25mph wind will move a 168gr MK at 2500 dos about 2.1" at 100yrds.

My ballistics calculator says 2.7 with my 178gr amax load which does 2700 out of a 24" barrel and is not hot. Obviously the 168 SMK is lighter and has a much lower BC. I didn't feel like looking up the actual numbers on the bullet. I load 168 amaxs for my buddys 16" AAC-SD and they do a hair over 2600 all day long over 44.4gr of varget with no pressure signs.

Regardless, if it was a wind or ammo issue there would be more vertical spread besides the two obvious flyers. Call it what you want but I imagine if he was shooting in a 25+ mph wind he would've said something. When Im on the range when its windy Im usually the only one out there like today. At any rate now that I reread the thread I see he doesn't even state what rounds he was shooting and got it mixed up with the poster above him.

Re-read post 103, the first one you quoted. I didn't call it anything.

Are you only measuring 5 of the 10 round group for the 2"?

Yup. That seemed to be the subject of the stringing comment.

Then my ramblings were take for moe than ramblings so I went with it.

I was referring to the entire target which would be closer to 3. It would be foolish to assume that those 5 are from one string. Even more so since the magazine holds 10 (I assume 10 or more since it looks relatively the same as my 10 Rd AI mags) or more.
