Training: Are You Fooling Yourself?
Training: Are You Fooling Yourself?
Excellent points. I try to simulate firing under stress whenever I can by jogging until my pulse rate is over 100 bpm, then I challenge my buddy to this drill: Lean back against the support column, cross your legs and read a newspaper. At the buzzer, the guy holding the timer shouts either "Strong Hand" or "Weak Hand", drop the newspaper, draw from concealment, double tap three targets, one at 7, 15, and 25yds, reload and repeat. Do this drill repeatedly and keep score and time. Loser buys lunch. We're all Alpha Male types and the thought of losing creates sufficient stress in and of itself.
To replicate a realistic scenario, I propose the following drill:
-Drill to be performed naked/in underwear
-Shooter starts drill laying in a bed
-A shot timer with buzzer that screams "GIVE ME THE MONEY!" is to be used
-Gun is placed on the night stand
-On the "beep", shooter is to grab the gun and begin engaging targets strong hand only with one full mag per target
-This is a joke
