Of course, if this was happening, I imagine the land owners would want them shot. And usually if the coyoyes are getting an easy meal off the hogs, they usually nwont' bother going sfter livestock or pets.

Coyotes arescavengers they usually won't hunt if there is dead animal around as a food source.Of course, if this was happening, I imagine the land owners would want them shot.

My point was they usually won't bother livestock or pets if they have an easy free mealThen why mention them going after livestock and pets...
More than likely the hogs are doing massive amounts of crop or pasture damage along withsoil erosion when it rains.I reckon since the landowner doesn't want to shoot coyotes, then he kills hogs in order to protect his livestock and pets.
Coyotes are oppertuninist. If they are hungery and there are easy picking they easy pick. Animals need to justify the energy they use to feed themselves. That's why I never had much of a garden for the squirrels. Then why mention them going after livestock and pets...

Most coyotes are not big enough to even take a new born calf. And coyotes don't run or hunt in pack, perhaps with the help of a mate or offspring.
Oh, they will most definitely go after livestock. Chickens, lambs, baby goats etc. Then why mention them going after livestock and pets?
Like I asked.
Livestock is a pretty broad thing. Chickens are livestock, like people raise ducks & other fowl. A new born kid goat or lamb very possible. Then why mention them going after livestock and pets?

Will prey on pets as well. Tons of home security video out there of Wile E taking small dogs, puppies, and cats.
Ihave no knowledge of why that landowner ddin't want the coyotes killedon his place but hereif we think that they are threat to our liestock r pets we put them down.Of course.
And as I stated, if that was happening, most landowners would probably want coyotes killed.

That would fall under the “as needed” clause in my post on the subject.Of course.

Main point is only shoot what you have express permission to shoot and do not assume anything.
