I've never met a postal inspector and even if one was present I can't imagine why he would want to search my vehicle. I keep a low profile ( no NRA decals etc) and dropping off packages or buying stamps doesn't seem like suspicious activity to me.
I swear some of you guys are so scary ,I'm surprised you carry a gun at all.
Don't use a gun rack. It will get stolen.
Bahahawaa, yeah 20yrs ago before CNN and the net.
To sell on the internet (they are rare!).Why would someone steal a gunrack if no one uses them anymore??

As far as I can recollect the State or Texas does not consider any difference between a gun and a loaded gun. In Texas a gun is a gun.Loaded as in a round in the chamber?
I’m not aware of a specific prohibition, but I’m not sure it’s the safest thing to do, even with a bolt gun or single shot.
Long gun/shot guns laws are pretty much non-existent here.
Gun racks were popular when pickup trucks had a front seat only. Now it is very impractical with a back seat. You would have to stop the truck, get out and crawl in back to get a gun from a rack.To sell on the internet (they are rare!).

Unloaded is a club.
Those are mostly illegal.
But a single answering post of "Yes" and then close the thread just wouldn't be us.The question was not if it was safe but legal.
There are those that have fired their loaded long gun while trying to get them into or out of a vehicle. It happens at hunt camp and at home as well. Some can't safely handle one anywhere. Some people should not have a loaded gun anywhere.
Some states have laws against transporting loaded firearms. Texas is not one of them.
If you have a firearm that the safety is of questionable functionality, it probably needs repair.

Yeah, but I do need to know the legal answer I keep an unloaded (no mag in the well either) AR15 in my trunk with 2 magazines right next to it topped off... If it's technically a club without a round in the chamber i definitely want to know.
Why would one not keep a loaded mag inserted, leaving the chamber empty (if it made them feel better)? A round cannot accidentally go off in the mag. especially if it's locked in a trunk. Just curious as to the reason.
