Yesterday the neighbor came over to bitch me out about our yard. He had a valid point; I admitted the yard was overgrown... I told him sorry and I'll cut it later that day, but he replied "no sorry, tell me why you let it get like this." I told him it just wasn't a high priority for me, but told him again I'd take care of it. He then got even more hostile and started asking me what I do for a living. I told him and then he calls me a liar. Made some remark about having three cars but can't pay someone to cut the yard, then he said I needed to cut my hair and the yard and wandered off.

So I cut the yard later that day and he comes out and says thanks. I say, "You're welcome, but what was the deal with you calling me a liar earlier?" We basically went through the whole thing again and he says I can't tell him what I actually do. Its not my fault if he cant get it... Never even attempted to apologize to me.

What is really disappointing is I've never had a problem with this guy before. He always seemed friendly. The dude is disabled and doesn't work. All he does all day is mow his lawn and get drunk in his driveway. I've never bothered him about anything even though he does questionable shit at times and his little dog barks incessantly at me through the fence. I thought he was a decent enough neighbor, but now he's just another asshole I have to ignore. A nosy and jealous one at that.

My next door neighbor was one of my favorite people in Texas for at least 5 years. Within the last year, he became a habitual drunk who throws drunken parties and a total jerk. He developed a huge belly recently and while some of that may be fat, I know some of it is from a swelled liver that is screaming for mercy. He drinks to blackout, remembers nothing of the night before and ingests huge amounts of alcohol. His favorite drunken tricks involve lighting fires (BIG fires) and riding his Harley while blitzed.

We had a small fuss in November and after thinking it over, I shut the door on him. I'll be polite, but with 35 years of sobriety coming up on May 16, I don't want his drunken shit around me. His parents and son refuse to come around him and I'm going to do the same. He'll need to kill himself with alcohol without me as a witness.

I can't save the world. If he comes to me looking for help, I'll share what I've learned from almost 35 years of sobriety. Until then.....stay away!

Notice the common denominator in our stories? Both individuals are f'ing drunks!

The neighbor needs to mind his own business. I don't know why he needs to know what you do for a living or worry about your yard. Next time tell him to cut yours after he cuts his since he doesn't have anything better to do.

You were quite generous and very polite to admit it was overgrown and decide to do something about that day. However, I think you engaged in too much "child ego state" when you answered any questions about how it got that way or anything else. In my opinion when he asked why, you should have just told him that you would take care of it and then asked something along the lines of "is there anything else I can do for you today"? I would have probably have just closed the door then.

    But yeah, neighbors can suck.

You are much nicer than me.

My yard would have grown taller out of spite and the conversations would be much shorter.

No prick neighbor will tell me how to tend my lawn.

My neighbor had NEVER run a weed eater around his house. I'd never say a word to him about it because it's his right to have his yard how he wishes but I am going to move. Him being one of the reasons. I hope my next plan works to fix this issue.

This. And much, much taller. Might even have to hook the crow caller up to an amp and play it for hours at a time.

I would have seen it as a challenge. If you want to play "let's see who can be the biggest asshole to their neighbor" with me, you will lose.

    Lol.

Refer to them as "song birds". Such pretty songs they sing.

Raccoon fight would be another good one.

Did I mention I like to go shooting at 4am?

Is there an HOA? If not, he needs to find a place where he can get all the extra governance he craves.

If there is, Dan needs to move.

Those that worry about what MY yard looks like need to move to a HOA area and not talk to me about it.

Habitual heavy drinking - which is oftentimes accompanied by prescription or other drug (ab)use - severely damages brain function long-term.

    Eli

Sure is and everyone should be very careful around people like this. We had a neighbor that went off the reservation and his whole life imploded. He too would sit in his garage and drink Crown until plastered. He also mixed this with Oxycodone which he started to score somewhere illegally.

In the end he died at 52 somewhere in Alabama.

I had posted a thread about this guy and this is the last time I saw him.

There's no HOA, but we do live in the city limits. I went ahead and cut it because I don't need to be harassed by him and code enforcement both. The wife and I are both looking forward to moving out to our place in the country once we finally finish it.
