Ok, so here's the back story on the rust. We're motor officers. We ride our normal 8 hr shifts and most days we ride ogg duty as well, escorting funerals and oversize loads.

These guns get rained on a lot. I know some guys that will cover their weapon with their jacket in a downpour. Mine stays outside my jacket, and it gets wet pretty frequently, but I wipe it down more than this officer does.

I felt so bad for this gun, I made him an offer he couldn't refuse. I have three crisp hundred dollar bills in my pocket and a POS M&P 40 to add to the collection.

This one will a few drops of lube and I'll put a few hundred rounds down range in its current condition and document it here.

    I'm confused.

Did he give you $300, and the gun, in trade for something else?

While I'm not a fan of them, m&p's are reliable guns.

I guess if things are out in the weather, they can rust… if no maintenance is done.

You weren't wearing any rubber gloves, Andre. Get a tetanus shot.

Ok, I knew guys that didn’t want to clean their rifles after training, and would pay others to do it. I found that to be like not wanting to wipe your as after taking a shit.

I wouldn’t want to work with that guy, it’s completely unacceptable, dangerous, I don’t do work with broken tools.

I would like to know how his gun got that bad. Sweat from carrying it IWB or just neglect (unholstered, left outside to get wet, drops it in water). I've never seen a handgun that bad.

I finally decided to pull this turd out of my desk drawer and figure out what I'm going to do with it. It's in bad shape.

The frame has pretty heavy wear on the grip. It's uv faded to a chalky gray color from sun exposure.

I'm going to lube and shoot it as is, and see if it can make 200 rounds.

If you were more near to me, I'd contribute a box for the torture test. I'm actually interested in what will happen.

If you decide to sink money into it, cerakote the whole thing or at least a frame dye would be on my list, but the slide needs finished too. The "stainless" S&W uses int he M&P is not really stainless as most think of it.

Apex or Faxon replacement barrel. Good excuse as any to put an Apex trigger in it as well.
