I use to say my carry knife was “ working sharp “. I had to cot the head off a little Bull snake yesterday. My knife is “Working Dull”. Off to the stones I go.

    Dad carried a Schrade.
    3 blade pocket knife.
    A couple of utility blades.
    One for cutting young bulls.
The castration blade only came out for sharpening and business.

I carry a stone in my pocket. Always.
I have more stones, strops, a Wicked Edge and a Ken Onion at home. Usually a set in each vehicle as well.
    My knives are sharp.

No knives take more of a beating than kitchen knives. I have no idea how my wife does it, considering how little she cooks, but she can turn knives into screwdrivers overnight. So from time to time I have to break out the stones and go to work on those knives. I read an article in a hunting & fishing magazine many years ago in which the writer suggested that you sharpen your kitchen knives before you sit down and sharpen your primary hunting knife. It gets you into the practice of getting that consistent edge, and you really need those knives sharp for every day use anyway.

Why the bull snake decapitation? Stuck in a glue trap?
Was weed eating around a tree and the little guy came out from underneath the tree. Unfortunately , the line layed His belly open and exposed his intestines. I !wasn’t going to leave him to suffer. Not happy about loosing him , he had been around all summer and he had gotten fairly use to me.

Sucks, but had to be done. Weed eater is better than a glue trap.
