At 0900 and just 49F , I headed out to meet a group in Liberty then ride to lunch on Lake Houston but I screwed up, twice, not trusting my GPS (I was probably right) so I let them know I'd be at lunch only. One guy .. late 20s? .. has paper tags on a '23 BMW S1000rr. I asked how much HP and he didn't know, dafaq?

The answer is 205, a paltry 45 more than my '09 ST but at 14yrs newer and some 200# lighter, I bet that's enough to get 'r done. ;)

On the way home I hit the best-in-area twisties erroneously tagged 50mph. Just as I entered a good right hander, I see an upright bike barely off the road on a driveway and a guy standing there. I lifted my knee off the pavement (cough cough), slowed and gave a *wassup* gesture but his response wasn't a thumbsup so I doubled back. I pulled up to a late 20s / early 30s dude, long dreads, smokin & phonin with a not my style but nice looking dressed Indian.

    Me: You all right?
Him: I came around the corner, hit some gravel and went down. All those scratch marks are mine.
    Maybe you should slow down.
I was only going 45! I'm a new rider and it's my 1st time on the twisties.
    See *slow down* above ...

Meanwhile his buddy arrived on a bike to help so I decided that was a good time to exit.

Did I mention new Indian rider dude's helmet looked like this?
    Motorcycle_Helmet_Cover_-_Rabbit5_800x.jpg

I suspect he was trying to ride a dresser as if it were a crotch rocket and I get that. Hopefully he learned and has many more safe miles of riding.
BTW: I did 2 more laps so I passed him 3 times and never encountered gravel at that, or any other curve this evening.
    Hey Coiled,

I was Blessed...learned on a 45" HD...set up for a side car (STEEP gears, let out the clutch in second and be at a walking pace)...

Did I mention? Foot clutch/hand shift.

Then? Ran a 1948 Chief for 20yrs...(left hand throttle/right hand shift)....played all the field events....Couple years into that 20? Bought the '83 FXRS (ordered engine, over a year ago..)....Bought the '99 FLHT in October of '22...

First words of instruction (by the neighbor Lady what owned that 45" HD), "Only LOOK! where you want to go." (my Dad said if I dented Miss Patti's scooter? He'd tan my hide, BUT GOOD."...

She made a couple of us draw chalk on the pavement...Circles, "Ess" turns, stop, Pull out...go straight. Then we did "plank rides", tire toss (almost impossible with a hand clutch machine, on a HD one puts three bicycle tires on the left handle bar, going at real slow speed one attempts to put one tire on each of three traffic cones, set in such a fashion that one needs maneuver the machine in a professional manner) Water carry (cup of water on one's fool haid, whilst doing slow race...never once did that without spilling it over) On the Chief, one puts the bicycle tires on the right handlebar....as the throttle is on the left..

What most do not realize about the foot clutch machines, is properly adjusted, if one is slipping the clutch (aka slow race type activity) it takes about a block or so for the clutch to "vibrate" to all the way "out"..Not like a hand clutch, where when you release it, its released. On the HD it was "Toe to Go". On the Chief it was "Heel to Go"... I think? The 45" HD it may have even stayed longer, as it was balanced for low speed??

All this long winded post....I think it would behoove every new rider to take some good training....There are good vids on line, "Doodle on a bike." "MC Rider" a Tejikanz gentleman, "Ride Like a Pro"...a Florida couple...anyone watch Miss Donna Palladino on a bagger? They will want to up their skill level a bit..

Even folk that have been riding a while? Good to practice SOMETHING, every time out (right now? I'm working on "full lock" U turn to the right, from a stop....) Whether it is controlled stopping, leaning, turn&swerve, figure 8's (I do those every time out) and of course some "slow race" fun....

The new rider tends to LOOK the wrong place and, as you said may want to go faster than his "angel can fly"...

I think the "low speed" training is vital to do first....for the rider to learn to be in CONTROL of his machine. Then start to work on higher speed activities...

    Motor Gently..

Put about 8,000 miles on this machine....since the 4th of July...

This was Tuesday down to Cherry Run...

We do everybody. Trump is always a hoot when he comes through. In the last picture, Biden is using the lower entrance to enter AF1 now. It's a shorter less steep ladder, because he kept falling with the taller ladder with the upper entrance. Crazy.

You ride a goldwing? If you do, how do you like it? I had a ST1300 for a while. It was a little top heavy. My 2 up bike now is a 1200 adv bike. Was thinking about swapping it for a new wing. It would be more comfortable for the gf but they are the size of Rosie O'Donnell.

Perhaps you are a better man.

I wouldn't speak a word to tell that sob a car was coming at it, let alone ride in the rain for it.
I don't really think about who's in the package anymore. My first motorcade was with Bush Jr and I've escorted every president and VP since then. They all get treated the same.

When I retire and get off this bike I'll never ride again. It stopped being a hobby for me a long time ago.
