Stay away from the import malls. They're cool and all if you have more time. Way too easy to spend hours looking at pottery, blankets and cheap leather stuff.

At least that's what I'm told.

I'd of course never be caught dead in such a place.

4 years old . I'd say zoo. You could go to San Marcos and see wonder world. You'll have to carry the kid over some of the steep parts in the cave. My daughter loved feeding the fallow dear when she was that age.

Brackenridge Zoo! The Alamo. River Walk. Natural Bridge Caverns.

Yep, but nix the riverwalk. It ain't exactly friendly anymore.
We used to love the riverwalk. It's changed, and not for the better.

I'm with Vaq on the Riverwalk.
Natural Bridge Caverns also has a drive thru safari.

I bring my youngin to the zoo quite a bit. It has more to offer then she has energy. I would suggest hitting it first thing or a few hours before closing though, as the heat tends to push all the animals inside or into deep slumber. Outside the zoo in Brackenridge Park there is also a train that takes you for a short ride around the park. Also, over on Broadway, right down Mulberry is the San Antonio Kiddie Park. It isn't anything special, but it has a few rides for that age group and a carousel. It might be a good add on to the zoo.
