I've got a couple of pairs of dress boots, but want a set of knock-around, every day Western boots - leather soles, stacked heel, pull-on, preferably brown leather.

I have a high instep, so I need to try on different brands.

Do I hit the usual names - Boot Barn, Cavender's, Lucchese, etc., or is there an independent shop that might have a good assortment at less than full list price?

Not sure where the best place is anymore. I buy a pair and then keep them for thirty years - half soles and heel caps as necessary.

Thanks. I've been to Boot Barn back in Nevada, but never in Cavender's.

If you’re in the San Antonio area, make a short trip west on I10.

You may also just need an arch insert.

I've got boots like the Bates, but want western-style boots.

    BRD@66,
I am not a cowboy and never pretended to be one.

Well I'm not either - but I pretend to be one.

No, it's that my foot won't fit down the shaft of some boot models:

My Lucchese and Tony Lama boots are fine, but the shafts on three different Roper-brand styles were too narrow.

It appears that Billy's is in Boerne and Kerrville. I'll check them out next time I'm in the vicinity.

    Thanks
