I’ll play. Got nothing better to do than contribute to a necro thread.

    1, Glock 17. Let’s face it…common round and common gun/mags
2, ar15. Common ammo and mags. Plenty reliable.
3, 590a1 security. Likes to run dry. Needs little care.
    4, a good bolt action in 308 or 30-06.
5, m1 carbine. What!? Yes…not common ammo. Not high capacity mags. Not common mags. So why? The m1 carbine is turning into one of my favorite security tools. Very light. Very fast handling. Needs little care. A wonderful classic.

Thread necropsy makes the interwebs go ‘round.

I’d love to find a nice M-1 carbine, where’d you find yours?

How many rounds have you put through your carbine?

30 round mags are out there. The GI 30 round mag in my closet is all I have left of my dad's M1 Carbine after it was stolen. Can't wait to try it out in mine.

I got one off Gunbroker a couple of years ago. Cost me $900, but it's not one of the really desirable makes - it was made by Standard Products. I'm still wanting a GM or Rock-Ola.

Not enough. Ammo is mostly an order online thing.
A few tips, the more M2 bits on the gun, the better, specifically the bolt and op rod. Don't waste time on 30 round mags, even if you have the M2 mag catch.

Bolts last around 5k. Always try to replace them with round M2 bolts, also, avoid Wolff M1 carbine mainsprings.

Try to limit the amount of soft point or lead (buffalo bore) ammo you shoot. The carbine is extremely intolerant of lead.

Cleaning the bore and action can be a pain, but you can remove the bolt without dissassembly, pull the charging handle back and out to clear the right locking lug, then shove it forward. You can then push the bolt back to where it starts to rub the hammer, then lift it out. Super handy for cleaning the important bits.

Never, never, ever shoot the Chinese .30c ammo in the white box marked 7.62. it is corrosive and will ruin you gas system.

That I'm not sure of. The one I've got came with Dad's carbine when he bought it in 1960. The only aftermarket mag I've seen in person was a ProMag, and I wouldn't trust that shit. Someone out there has to be making good ones though.
Not 30 rounders. The korean 15 round mags are ok.

Even the USGI 30's can be iffy sometimes
