If yo need a fellow lease guy, let us know. I just can’t take the 100F heat of early season any more.

    Try this: charlotte@texasdovehunters.com

This is a new Texas-based outfit. I joined last year; IIRC, it was like $20/year.

They have more listings for the upcoming season.

Problem I’ve found with most ‘’outfitters’’ is that they only want to deal with large groups, and we are usually just 3 or 4 hunters.

There are individual ‘’3-day’’ dove leases around ElCampo, but the the doves may not be there. Last 2 hunts there, I killed 3 birds in 6 days of hunting, so I can’t recommend it. Killed the first 3 that come over; that was it.

But I recall an opening day in 2002, on the Rio Grande just outside of Brownsville, when we saw only 2 birds the whole afternoon. Never even uncased our shotguns.

I’ve decided to skip opening this year & go for the second part when it is hopefully some cooler. Last year @ Laguna Vista it was 106F, ‘’real-feel’’ of 114F. Too hot for this Viejo.

I’ll go for teal here in SW LA, hunting is over b/f the heat.

I’ve noticed that the small towns all along our Gulf Coast are just full of doves. We even had whitewings all the way over to Apalachicola.

When I was young back in the other century, one never saw a white wing East of Victoria, & there were very few around Corpus.

I’m 100 miles East of Orange in the Trans-Sabine, and have white wings nesting on my property, and there are two large colonies based near me.

But out in the fields, zip. . . .
