With a new pickup on the way, I’m again considering an in-truck “gun safe” for handguns.

By now, some on TGT must have gained experience, so I seek advice. Looking for something bolted-down, no “cables”. Quick access to gun from drivers’ seat would be a plus, but not absolutely necessary.

Truck is a 2023 JEEP Glladiator “OverLand”.

Please tell of your experiences and recommendations in this area.

    Merci,

Before you buy anything please understand lock types and methods to get in the safe. Don’t buy anything with outside hinges and don’t buy anything other than a disc detainer core. I wouldn’t buy one at all…keep the gun on you or have the facility your at be secure.

I've used them in my last few trucks. They are better than others I've had/seen, but (like most things) are really meant to keep 'honest people honest'. At the very least, it'll slow down a criminal.

I understand, but not always possible.

Time is all that’s needed. Think about this: you’re vehicle is only so secure…then one of y’all buys a safe on Amazon to save money or a “high end” website. Burglar already got his jiggler key or rake set and done. Only a few minutes have passed.

I’ve got the Console Vault brand. It’s the very same one you can option as a Ford genuine accessory, only it does not have the Ford logo. Installs into the factory console. They make them for most makes trucks and SUVs and some cars too and aren’t that difficult to install. I opted for a single tumbler, but you can get double tumblers as well. Set your own code and done. I’m very happy with it and I can use the full space inside my console. The only limiting factor is that the opening is smaller, but my wife can still stuff her purse through

Those lock types are still an issue. A tool can be used to feel the “notches”.

Ya, but most of the smash and grabs are quick jobs. In a parking area, I doubt they would carry all the tools needed to address any “opportunity” they may find. Any mobile lock box can be broken into, but time is not on the side of the perp.
