Good luck getting there, though. Fill it up with JP4 at the corner Valero (or, I suppose, negotiate for it down at the airport...) and you can go 300 miles before you're running on fumes and need to buy another 500 gallons of jet fuel. But why use a tank? We're told that a bunch of unarmed people milling about in the Capitol building constitutes the gravest threat "our democracy" has ever faced. They nearly toppled the government, we're told! Good thing none of them had so much as a bb gun...

Ah, another isolationist. That's adorably naïve in the modern world. Do you think we should just allow Russia to run rampant in Europe and rebuild some pseudo-Soviet Union? Is there some way you think that would somehow benefit us, especially with China becoming a larger and larger threat, and the Obama administration ensuring our military can no longer even contemplate a war on two fronts, as had been the doctrine since the end of WWII?

What, exactly, are the benefits of isolationism anyway? History shows us that the end result once we inevitably get drawn into a major conflict is thousands and thousands of dead US servicemen who shouldn't have died...because we weren't ready and weren't paying attention because it was "none of our business".

I'm old enough to remember Russia's invasion of Afghanistan. Now sure, that was before the fall of the Soviet Union, but then I believe Russia was a bigger threat to us back then than now. Did that really work out well for us? I certainly have no problem with helping out our allies across the world, it just seems it never works out well for America when we meddle in countries that are not our allies. If the end result is WWIII, who wins?

As for what Afghanistan turned into, well, that's a result of the US government not doing any nation building and deciding it "wasn't our problem" once the Russians were gone...until it became our problem when they sheltered Al Qaeda. Another win for the "how far away are they?" attitude.

We were in Afghanistan the way we were specifically because we decided they were not our problem once the Soviets left. We should have gone in diplomatically and helped them get their shit together instead of letting them fall into decades of civil war that allowed a bunch of neo-medieval religious fanatics to take over and eventually get us into military action there - which led to the Biden Bugout clusterfuck, and a source of yet more weapons in the hands of terrorists.

And you'll notice I never said anything about 'adopting American values". That's not even possible in the middle east, but helping create a stable and non batshit crazy government is. But we were more interested in staying out instead of trying to help them recover from the Soviet folly, and now here we are. Because we took the approach you advocate. We said "and how far away are they from us?" until they fucking flew airplanes into buildings and got us involved militarily instead of diplomatically.

There was civil strife in Afghanistan long before Russia invaded. Our so called friends in Afghanistan are the ones involved in 9/11. Our idea of helping "them get their shit together" is asking them to adopt our values. While there are many Afghan peoples against the Taliban, it sure didn't take long before they took control of the major areas again after we left.

Everyone is wearing blue and yellow, or vishvankas or trizubs or sunflowers, or slogan shirts... the invasion helped unite them as UKRAINIANS more than anything else could. Think how patriotic the USA was right after 9/11, but more so.

Is the Dombas region no longer Ukraine? There are pro Russian Ukrainians as well as anti Russian Ukrainians. Now that's not to say they are equal in the amount of people, but that certainly doesn't make them united in fighting Russia.
