Yes, in per/capita murders. Plus, many of the murders there are racially inspired. Some crazed Black kid just starts shooting into a crowd of total strangers.

When NOPD finally caught the two "Mothers' Day Second-Line" (informal parade) Shooters and interrogated them, they just said they thought it a good idea to just go shoot a bunch of people that day. They hit 51, one eventually died from it.

If you are out in public, say on a street in a bunch of folks, and someone just starts shooting, what could you do besides run or drop ? Your personal carry weapon would be pretty useless, as confusion reigns.

Some survivors have told me, directly, that they didn't know what was going-on, even AFTER THEY WERE HIT !

Since last year, that has become: "N.O., JUST DON'T GO !"

Never did like the Chocolate City. It's so dank I get sick within 10 minutes of getting there, an hour out off town & I start feeling better.

Last trip was with the Village Idiot to go see the S.H.O.T. Show. He really only wanted to go gamble.That proved his name, I mean come on SHOT .vs loosing your ass. After SHOT we had dinner then straight to the casino. I left after a couple of drinks. He made it back to the room around 3:00 am wanting to borrow money. I had to buy his breakfast & lunch on the way home. Learned later he cleaned out what he had in his checking account.

New Orleans has never been safe, but the combination of drugs and corruption have made it a real cesspool.

I worked for a company that had a tank farm in Marrero. If you could see what goes on at night in the houses that backed up to their fence, you'd want to nuke the entire area. Around the corner from the plant was an old hotel. Two guys standing out front during the day in 100 F heat with trench coats on. Linger a half second or look at them a second too long and they'd make sure you saw the automatic weapons they had under the coats. It was a gang HQ and they didn't mind who knew that.

There was a valve about 100 yards outside of the plant. Sometimes it had to be opened or closed at night. Standard procedure was to call the cops. They would pull up and turn on their overhead lights. Someone would drive over and open the valve, and let the cops know what time to come back so they could close it. No one dared go in or out after dark.

Granddaughter, DIL and Son are flying back from NO this evening.......

Haven't spoke to them about the trip yet, they have been there all week........

I like Nola. I know it's far from perfect. We haven't done the quarter in a long time. If we do the quarter it is usually to go to a particular place. The food scene there is unique and I love food. I've visited there or lived there for as long as I can remember. It is a special place for me. Warts and all

Back during Katrina one of the nieces then husband did search & rescue and ended up in NO. He said when they where getting close the called for the armed escort into the camp they were staying in.

He said there were guys going up in Little Bird helicopters to draw and return fire. Said he had a great time.
