    Downloaded the app to my phone today and it's awesome. Was in the pool for maybe the last afternoon of the year and could look up and see planes and know where they left from, where they were going, how fast they were going and at what altitude. Pretty cool.....that kind of stuff interests me.

    Those planes are tiny relative to the size of our airspace. Aside from takeoff and landing it’s rare that they will be anywhere near each other, much less close enough to crash.

    I flew from Santa Barbara back to DFW last Thursday. I sat on the left side by a window, and saw three planes headed the opposite direction below our altitude, but near enough I could tell the plane type. Then one was headed our direction and was climbing and overtaking us.

    I am sure they were within the legally required vertical and horizontal separation distances, but it was very odd to see them that close so far from the airport
