    Something I found years ago that served multiple purposes was an old shot out barrel.
    Originally I was using these to practice Cerakote application. When dry, throw in blast cabinet and shoot another color or try special effects or whatever. Do all over again.
    Later I was skeptical about threading an actual barrel, but then I remembered the old barrels I used to Cerakote for practice.
    These worked perfectly and will take the edge off of threading a good barrel until you feel comfortable threading one that is scrap to begin with.
    Also a good way to practice indicating bore alignment prior to threading.

    Bought a 6 point spider to do shorter barrels through the headstock. Using it for my 17 HMR barrel today.
