    majormadmax,

Some TX trivia. = The GONZALEZ FLAG was NOT even designed when the minor skirmish happened there.
Also, the original flag was made out of a piece of a silk ladies wedding lingerie.
(Despite some late 19th Century claims, the flag was NOT made out of ladies PANTIES either, as panties & bras had not yet been invented. = Panties & bras were invented by a seamstress in Paris France after 1850, who didn't like wearing corsets.)

The flag WAS flown by a group of volunteers at San Jacinto according to a couple of period diary accounts.

NOTE: The only "casualty" at Gonzalez was a TEXAS militiaman, who got his nose broken when his own horse reared up.

BTW, the "1824 TRI-COLOR" was NOT flown at the Alamo.

    To All,

The SKIRMISH at Gonzalez (It was NOT really a "battle".) had long-term importance to Texas Freedom that was FAR beyond what actually happened.

When the Mexican lancers returned to their HQ without the cannon, the "officer commanding" turned in a COMPLETELY FALSE report as to what had occurred that day. As NONE of his subordinates really wanted to give the Texas forces another chance to shoot at them, everyone "backed up" his FICTIONAL account.= He claimed that the militia at Gonzalez had a whole BATTERY of at least SIX tubes of "HEAVY ARTILLERY" & that PHONY "report" SPOOKED the Mexican High Command to the point that they were very "nervous" about sending out light recon forces for the rest of the Revolution.

    yours, satx
