I got to meet him backstage once. Billy Bobs in the late 90's. A guy that worked for me had an army buddy whose father was a touring manager so that's how I got there.
He was Army, I was USMC and Mr. Daniels knew that, but he was simply the most down to earth and genuine person. I was amazed that a superstar like that would treat us they way he did. It wasn't a quick meet and greet, here's an autograph, but an actual conversation like he was genuinly happy to meet us. Then he got out on stage and danced around with more energy than I had that night. I remember being impressed that he had that much energy and could move around like that for an older guy. (Of course now I don't consider him to be an older guy back in the 90's, but one's definition of older changes as time goes by it seems).
AIN'T THAT THE SCREAMING TRUTH!!
(I recently saw a "brand spanking new" TEXAS RANGER shopping at a local gun store & my 1st thought was, "WHEN THE H did they start commissioning 'shirt-tail kids' as Texas Rangers??".)
The young Ranger was likely > 30YO, btw.
I chuckled to myself about having obviously become a certified OF @ 73YO, after I left the store.
A great musician and a great friend of the 2nd Amendment. I can't tell you how much stuff he donated to help Friends of NRA and other pro-2A groups. RIP, CD.
