Figured I’d start a watch picture thread, haven’t seen one yet but also haven’t looked.

I’m sure some of you have at least a passive interest in horology.

    Post your stuff!

Nothing special on my end, just a Seiko Presage Version of the Cocktail Time and a Hamilton Jazzmaster GMT

Love watches, just can't afford anything particularly exciting. I have a Seiko SNZG15J1 for a casual everyday and a Tissot Automatic III that was a gift from my wife and daughters for Father's day. It's significantly nicer than my Seiko.

I like the Seiko! Was tempted to pick up one with the Arabic numerals recently after seeing Sean Cody’s Seiko MAC-V SOG watch. Didn’t know sean was into watches until after he passed unfortunately

Does the Tissot have the powermatic 80 movement?

    Dang.

The Seiko is a great daily wear, got a steal on it, it was on sale for $70 with shipping. It doesn't have second hand hold when adjusting the time and you can't wind the movement, which can be a bit of a nuisance, but otherwise it's very solid, especially for the price.

I specifically chose the Tissot for the movement, it has a ETA Caliber 2836-2. It's a great mechanical movement, and very robust. Also I think it's a subtle and classic looking watch.

Yeah the 7s26 (I believe) doesn’t have hacking but apparently there’s a way to make it stop enough to match real world seconds lol. I chose the Hamilton for its ETA as well. 2893-2 I believe

Yeah, you can kind of tweak the knob to adjust the minute/hour and at a certain point it'll sort of disconnect the seconds to get it close enough. Not sure how good for it that is though.

Yeah I guess you might as well let the seconds hand do it’s own thing

I know this is typically considered heresy, but I bought a really nice ETA 2824-2 too grade movement, case, crystal, dial and hands to build a homage watch of a Laco Aviators watch. Haven't gotten around to doing the assembly yet though.

Note: it doesn't have a Laco branding on it, it's not supposed to be a counterfeit. It's just for myself, closest I'll probably get to owning such a fine watch for some time.

Haha do whatever you like. It’s a nice looking watch from the few pictures i saw on google.

I really like the Certina DS PH200M, but don’t want a powermatic 80. It seems a lot of entry level swatch group watches are using it now.

The specs on it are top notch but I don’t like that the movements are essentially thrown away and replaced upon service, at least from what I’ve read. That’s why I looked into an older discontinued Hamilton that still had an ETA 2893-2.

Yeah, I don't intend to buy any powermatic movements. It was difficult finding a watch with a decent ETA in a $300 - $600 price range. Most of them are now in the higher end stuff. Entry levels pretty much have powermatics or something like the Seiko 5 movement. Both are probably fine, but I don't feel like they have the same kind of craftsmanship that the legit ETAs do.

Yep, kinda like the Seiko 4R35. They sell the movement alone to other brands as the NH36 I think. Not a bad movement at all, I just already have a watch with it in there. They’re seemingly moving the 6R15 upmarket by discontinuing their $500-$600 watches that had it and reserving it for more expensive watches I think.

Affordable, new ETA movements are hard to find because Swatch Group limits supply to outside competitors.

By government mandate, they’re still supplying them, but at significantly reduced numbers that will eventually wind-down to zero over the next few years.

Swatch is to watches, as Luxottica is to eyewear...

Clocks with wristbands are popular and I don't get it.

    Why so big?

If anything, I prefer half the size of some these watches that're clock size...WTH?

    They look goofy as hell.
