This is truth. We took in a rescue years ago, who would pee herself whenever I offered her a dog treat. Very sad to watch. I kept trying and remembered to keep my voice low and friendly. Now she rarely even cowers and will come get a treat with tail wagging. It took months.^^^Ditto.^^^
If the dog has been abused in the past, it will have some trust issues, and will take some time to learn to trust you. But they do come around, and when they do learn to trust you, they will be almost glued to your side!
I agree also. I have a Great Pyrenees that was dumped and found me. Took two years of loving before she quit squealing and running from me if I picked up a shovel or garden hose. Now she is the sweetest dog we have ever had.^^^Ditto.^^^

GP's are fantastic dogs. We have 2 rescues, Shelby and Sam. Both came with their trust issues but time and love have bridged the gaps. Best dogs ever...gentle loving members of the family yet fiercly protective when it comes down to it. They play and romp with the cats and chickens while on "patrol". And then there's Snort'n Morton....Sam's best friend, another rescue.I agree also. I have a Great Pyrenees that was dumped and found me. My only complaint is that she barks a lot. Otherwise, you couldn’t ask for a more loyal friend.GP's are fantastic dogs. We have 2 rescues, Shelby and Sam. BIG YES! Mine (almost) talk as much as my wife! I just remove my hearing aids. Luckily, we live in the sticks. My only complaint is that she barks a lot. Otherwise, you couldn’t ask for a more loyal friend.
What a nice looking firend. Hopefully he'll re-gain his confidence. Our recent rescue spent so much time in a crate he thinks an end table is his new crate. He like being able to slink out on the other open side of it View attachment 252873
Funny thing I told the wife I'd have no part of taking him to the vet for neutering. The other day I asked the wife if she ever checked the boy stitches (this ones is her dog) if she knew if the had to be pulled or if the fell out? What a nice looking firend. Hopefully he'll re-gain his confidence.

We have a refugee from the stormy weather. The wife was bringing stuff in from her car, when this one was waiting to come in out of the weather. Rabies tag, but no name tag with phone number.
Rabies tag is out of Burleson, Texas 2 + hours away. View attachment 253428
