Anyone here happen to play this back when it was an active online game years ago?
I stayed away from this, WoW and Evercrack because I didn't trust myself to not become completely addicted. A friend of mine in college got into Everquest so badly that he stopped going to class and ended up dropping out. Just not worth it.
Galaxies always seemed like a really cool game though.
I played it for a very brief time after basically everyone turned into Jedi and ran around slicing up the universe. It was a neat game, though probably better before everyone was able to be a Jedi.
It's fun and has a unique style of gameplay with it being an open world environment and having an open skill based system of character development. An open source emulator project for it has been going on for many years at swgemu.com and they have a hosted playable server as well.
Sounds like you played when the NGE (New Game Enhancements) was active. That was awful as the original game was much better. The emulation project at swgemu.com runs on the original version of Star Wars Galaxies, not the inferior NGE version.
