So if I just take the brace off my AR-15 'pistol' and put on a regular buffer tube, AND GET RID OF THE BRACE, is it now magically just a pistol???

After 300 pages of whatever, I am not sure!

A good question for this 35 page thread on that very subject...

And the consensus is no, removing the brace does not magically make it a pistol in ATF's eyes. It is a pistol, but will need to be a registered SBR unless a court intervenes by the 120 day deadline.
