If anyone is near San Marcos and interested, let me know. I am still a current instructor and would be happy to help out with info

I just reached out to you guys, and was told I'd have to do two tandem skydives and a First Jump Course.

Sorry, but I'm not interested in going that route! I don't mind ground school, but I simply refuse to do a tandem jump.

Whoever replied did add there are other drop zones who have training programs which don't require the tandem jumps, but didn't mention names.

If you can share (even if via a PM), I'd appreciate it!

Have you tried the DZ at Castroville? They jump out of a beat up old King Air, but it’s a quick trip to 11K in that plane.

Haven't talked with them, but their website only shows tandem jumps and they're a bit expensive ($249+).
That same site also only lists a Cessna 182. :spank:

I'll drop (pun intended) them an email and see what the say!

When it is time for me to die:

    2021 Harley-Davidson Street Bob® 114 in Scott, Louisiana - Photo 1 #2

I drove airplanes for 53 years; at no time did I feel the slightest urge to get our while airborne.

I wanted a H-D for my 58th BD some 22 years ago; Wife made me get a new JEEP instead.

    Now, @ 80; what’s to lose ?

I’ve seen way too many die from cancer, up-close.

I remember reading about a tandem jump in '94 where the instructor was so focused on the posture of the student that they hit the ground without opening the parachute.

I started on a modified T-10 chute in '79 with five static line jumps before freefall. When I started again in '93, it was the parafoil. Now, I want to get a few more jumps in but no tandem or "accelerated freefall" for me.

I've reached out to a few other drop zones, and all have said a tandem jump is required before even a static line one.

There has to be a school in Texas that doesn't follow that tactic!

The USPA even lists Static Line / Instructor-Assisted Deployments as an option for a first jump...

"Assisted during climbout by the USPA IAD or Static-Line Instructor, the student exits the aircraft solo with the parachute deploying immediately.

Exit and opening occur at 3,500 feet, then the student pilots the parachute to the landing area."
