    You can get brass that is so bulged at the base that a regular die will not resize it enough. It springs back and it is still too fat. Normally, you see this in military 308 and certain super hot 556 loads. A SB die can recover that brass, dillons carbide dies are small base and make sizing that brass easier. Even though you can recover it, it might be more prudent to toss it.

    I generally only load 1x LC brass(I do the work so I know it's 1x)but do pick up range brass as well in 556. 762 is only 1x LC, bought that way and I do the work as well.

    When I began loading rifle caliber I was told to use small base dies so I do it.
