My good group was with some FMJ 55 gr. but I'm currently trying out some 62 gr. "Winchester Open-Tip Barrier Defeating" bullets that a friend gave me. Sounds like they'd be good for hogs!

It seems to that Varget and RL15 are almost the same when it comes to performance and load data. As far as hog or deer hunting goes I really like Barnes Bullets.

Never tried RL15. Varget worked so dang good I just stuck with it. I've got some RL12 but no load data for .223 (scarce, anyway). Still good but outdated. I think either 10X or 15 replaced it years ago.

Varget is a lot more temp stable than rl15

Nice to know, thanks. Anybody know of any "tested and published" loads for Reloader 12?

did you let the barrel cool between changes?
I'm interested in the cold bore results myself as a hunter, that is what counts

I did. It was hot weather when I did it so it ever wasn't "cold" between groups but not extremely hot. I've since found a little 12vdc air compressor that plugs in the truck cigar lighter or accessory plug supposed to be used to air up flats on the road that I think I'm going use with a small hose attached to blow air through the barrel to cool it a little faster. 'Just thinking about it. I shoot three shot groups in about 7 to 10 seconds and three groups with each load (sometimes two, etc.) I don't get in a hurry. I'll let you know how my little fan works.

Ruger came out with this model a few years ago supposedly to satisfy complaints that their employees were shooting anything but Ruger for target matches.

    Nice rifles.

Nice indeed! I'd like to get one but I'm not real fond of the stock (minor issue). Me and "thumb holes" don't really get along, but that would be an easy fix. If I ever see one at a decent price that I can afford, I'll snatch it up.

They actually make one with a Hogue synthetic stock too.
