Just bought a new Ruger Max-9 and took it to the range today and it's already having issues. The slide would stay locked back when there were still rounds in the magazine. This happened more than once. Plus often when you put a new (loaded) magazine in and pull the slide back to put a round in the chamber the slide got stuck in the back position.

Did a bit of research online and it seems to be a fairly common problem. Kind of a bummer because I really wanted to like this pistol and I've never had issues with Ruger.

    Gunz are icky.
Just guessing here but could the mag be locking in just a tad too high?
Maybe use a small file to enlarge the locking notch in the mag sidewall so the mag drops a 1000th or so. It kinda sounds like the slide is binding against the mag during cycling.

Talk to ruger. Gunsmithing is an option of last resort.

I have not been impressed with ruger as of late, but thier CS will still take care of you

Ruger Customer Service will help you. Contact them and don't do anything to the pistol before you do.
I'm going to contact them tomorrow. I've heard nothing but good things about their cs. Still sucks because I just bought it yesterday and will probably have to send it back to the manufacturer.

    Update:
Spoke with Ruger, I'm shipping it back today.
