    Such horseshit
They tell you that you have to save the tooth.
So you need a root canal and a crown.
    T
Which now is running about $3000

I have a tooth now with an abscess I'm on pills for 2 weeks
This same tooth had a crown and root canal in 2016

And in 2018 it got an abscess and I went to a different dentist, (good one) he referred me to an endodontist specialist who said it wasn't a good job prior and they could redo it..

That was $1900 back in 2018

2 weeks ago the same damn tooth with an abscess.

My dentist referred be back to the same endodontist ..not realizing it was the same tooth from 2018
He said he can't explain why it got reinfected but they would have to take a look
My dentist apparently don't do root canals since he is a one man show and they take so long and he would be able to do anything else while he was doing it.

The endodontist made me an appointment for Feb 2nd.

After thinking this whole thing over ..I called them and ask how much they were going to charge me just to look at it.

    $200

And the most likely outcome was another root canal.

No way..to hell with your scam

    Today's cost is $2300

I'm not putting over $6000 in a tooth when I can have an implant for half that

Out it comes tomorrow and I'm getting an implant

I won't ever go down this road again
If it needs a root canal it needs pulled and replaced
There are some people who say having a dead tooth in your head is just a toxin and not good ..I'm starting to believe them

Sux you had to go through all that. :(

In 2019, WA state, cracked tooth, was told same thing as you.
    $3000.
I asked: How much to just pull it out?
    $250.
I now have a $250 space in the back that doesn't show when I smile, and I smile a lot.:)

Yes, they don't seem to last. Once they go bad, your current dentist makes a statement about whatever dentist did the work didn't do it correctly.
    <>

We do have a practicing Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon on here with us; let’s see what he says.

    I have learned these:

It may cost as much for a ‘’root canal’’ +/- apicoectomy and crown as for an extraction, implant, & crown.

Modern implants are much less likely to cause further troubles and THEY DON’T MOVE.

OTOH, with the root canal etc. you still have a 60 or 70 year old tooth, which will give more problems.

After fighting these battles for years, I have gone straight to extraction & grafting; promptly or eventually getting an implant.

I hear that sometimes this can be done all at once; but both of my Periodontist Friends say its better to stage it.

If you are to have an ‘’implant’’, please find a Dentist who is expert in the procedure. Almost all Dentists claim expertise recently, so ask the numbers of procedures successfully completed.

One thing to consider is that the extraction & grafting can be done here by. most Oral Surgeons and some Periodontists.

The crowns are available from U S trained & qualified Dentists in Mexico, using modern equipment and devices, for about half what they cost here.

We use Joaquin Berron, DDS, @ Cancun; he was our Faculty Prosthodontist @ LSU Dental in New Orleans, and taught the implantology under Prof. Arturo Mendez (now of Austin), then returned to Mexico a few years ago.

We get routine dental care & extractions/grafting here but visit Cancun for later restorations. One saves enough to pay for a nice vacation, and still the overall cost is less. We stay @ the LaQuinta in downtown Cancun & take taxis around town.

One more great feature is that, after initial exams, one is given detailed explanations, with computer generated models & figures, so that one can plan their own restorations in detail, like choosing from a detailed menu with all prices in writing ahead of time.

Another ‘’bonus‘’ is that Dr. Berron’s assistants and hygienists are all Latina Graduate Dentists, whom he trains in Prosthetics & Languages in preparation for their upcoming U S Dental Fellowships. They are all ‘’smoking hot chicks’’.

I have one root canal, done about 8 years ago by a dentist in Bandera, now retired... cost $1200. No problems with that tooth so far, but that doesn't mean there won't be down the line.

Dentist messed up a root canal over 30 years ago. Yet it never gives me a problem, so I keep telling the current dentist I am not going to do anything as long as it is not causing problems.

I’m going through this now with two teeth…both getting implants. I’m 60 YO.

I won’t say root canals are a scam, but patient needs to understand implants cost 2-3X the cost but are a forever option.

Some take chance and save $ on root canal. Some last 10 years or more. But some don’t.

Dentist should list options and costs. Patients need to choose wisely.

Forever did not even last long enough to get the tooth prosthetic installed on mine (twice).

Skill of the dentist and the individual's bone structure can have a huge effect.

To many variable to have one fits all solution. Find a good provider who is an expert in those areas. Get a 2nd opinion if you have doubts.

Do you know what they call a dentist that graduates at the bottom of their class?

I've had 5 teeth yanked out rather than pay for root canals any more after having the same experience as you are. No implants I'm doing fine. Takes some getting used to but at my age money is more important then teeth. None of my front teeth are missing.

    Spring
so does anyone want to recommend a good dentist in Spring TX?
I've been going to the Dentists on Rayford, but can't really recommend for or against. Only services needed thus far are my biannual cleanings. People are nice though, and they're always on time.

It's been nearly 20yrs since I've seen him but me, and my family back then, were quite happy with Dr. Sanders.
Mind you he's only been practicing since '67 so proceed with caution. :)
