That's for the later Castle style ring - thanks anyway though. What is needed is an A-1 Spanner for the early retro style CARBINE BUFFER TUBE LOCK RING. - images should show the earlier tool and ring.

That's what I use...
I believe both Grainger, and McMaster-Carr have them.
No, sorry, not homoDepot, not WallieGreens, not the dollar store.

Look for 'Spanner Wrench' in the diameter of your castle nut, then match the pin size to the holes in the nut.
