Locking mechanism isn't listed but it's one of the first things I look at. I've had several quality made knives with good functioning liner locks, but in general I won't buy a knife with a liner lock style locking mechanism anymore. I just don't like the requirements for opening/closing the knife and on a cheaply made knife it fails more often than not. I prefer axis lock, triad lock, or lock backs.

That said, type of steel, blade length, and size of knife are probably my primary cares. Shape of blade is also high on the list, but a 4th option can't be chosen it seems. Everything else varies between my knives; handle material, color, brands, all vary.

Timely thread as my Kershaw launch 1 auto knife just gave up the ghost. The assist spring broke. I still have to call them and see if parts are available. The web site flagged is as out of production.

This knife was a daily carry at my job for 4 years. I am in the auto industry. It was primarily a box cutter. It also did car stuff like cutting carpet, tape, harness sheathing, probably more small wires than I should have. Also, scraping glue, stabbing tires and just dropping it playing around while bored was known to happen.

All in all, it held up fery well for the 100 bucks I paid. I used some crappy carbide sharpener I have in my tool box. I did a full tear down and clean with fresh grease where needed about once a year. It basically ran like a marathon runner until it had a heart attack.

I would buy the exact knife again if I can't get parts. I attached the link and a pic for reference. For my next daily work knife however, I am looking for some slight changes. I want a bit more of whatever it is called to keep my fingers from sliding down the blade. The lack of that always mabe me nervous.

    Otherwise, long winded response later...

    1. Real auto opening feature.
    2. 3.5 inch maby slightly longer but not over 4.
    3. Stainless / aluminum. It will serve some time wet and dirty.

Blade HQ also shows it in stock. I am just going off the Kershaw online warranty form that flagged the modle number as out of production. I have to call them.
