What type of pads would be best for "coming down the mountain"?
    Heat dissipation, brake fade, etc..........

    Not planning on changing rotors.

My experience with Chevrolet is to get the pads from the dealership
They are high, but I've tried some of the expensive top performers from the part stores and they end up being noisy
Sound like ceramic pads on delivery trucks....I hate that

Also if you dont change the rotors, at least take a air tool with a red scotch brite pad and knock the glaze off the rotor so the new pads will seat good.
You can do this without removing the rotor

I dunno what kind of pads Dodge puts on their 1500, but the factory pads on the 2500 I owned were good - long life and good performance.

If you go aftermarket, I recommend one of the following, with caveats:

    Hawk LTS
Good balance of manners (quiet, low dust) and performance.

    Hawk Super Duty
Max performance, potentially louder and definitely dustier

On a daily driver 1500 that tows occasionally, I’d lean toward the LTS pad.

    Edit:

As a survivor of Red Man mountain without brakes - purge all the fluid! Yourself if you can - shop fluid sits around forever and absorbs water! How big a trailer and brakes on it?

None better than EBC; if you aren’t changing rotors stick with a semi-metallic so they can bed in.

Nothing wrong with a Bendix pad either!

    Damn...we should rename this thread
"My first brake pads in Texas "

    Talk about a let down...
I could tell about the drum brakes on the f100 dad had me change on a turn row back in 1976. First brake job i ever did.
They held up for a few years. Middle of the field was my "shop" for most of my life.

GMC had one too. I drove a 74. Everyone knew who it was. Only one around those parts.
