I'll start this post off with a little backstory.. For the past few years I have been eying a few rifles and shotguns that unfortunately have been sitting in my grandma's storage unit for the past 15 years. I've always had the intention to bring them home and slowly restore them. A few weeks back, I went to her storage unit to get her christmas decor like I do every year. This year I decided to give the guns a better look and see which one would be the easiest to restore. I'm not very knowledgable with older firearms but I did see a pump shotgun, pump .22lr, a bolt action .410, and 2 semi auto shotguns. I gave them all a good look and decided to bring home a semi auto shotgun that looked to be in the best overall condition.

First order of business was to take it to my friends gun shop, Aransas Firearms and have him give it a look over. It was coated with a pretty good amount of rust, the bolt was pretty stubborn, and the wood was pretty tarnished.. It was evident that the 15 years of sitting in a storage hadn't been very kind. Within 10 minutes of Tony working on it there was a significant improvement. He was able to pass on a lot of knowledge and gave me a great gameplay of how to restore it and where to source parts. I had done some quick online research before bringing it to him and had a suspicion that it was a Remington Model 11 which Tony was able to confirm. He even found the owners manual online and printed me out a copy. I've done some tinkering with it here and there and cleaned up some on it today and now that Christmas is going to be coming to an end I'll be focusing on getting this shotgun into new condition. It will probably need to be reblued, and a rebuild kit will need to be put in to replaced all of the old springs and such. I'm very excited to get this thing back into like new condition because this particular gun belonged to my great grandfather.

I'll be updating this thread periodically as things start to progress, I wish we had thought to get some photos of it before we started cleaning on it. I will post some photos of it tomorrow.

Yep. I got some parts there for my 1924 Remington 22 rifle. Those guys have a ton of stuff for old guns.

Too bad better care was not taken of them while in storage, in that there is a lesson for all to learn.

You may be able to find parts for it but probably not a "rebuild kit". I suggest Numrich Gun Parts Corp as a good place to start: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/remington/shotguns-rem/11-2
    Good luck with the project.
Numrich is actually the source that Tony recommended as well. I've done some browsing and they do seem to have all of the things I'll need so far, I just need to decide whether to buy used factory screws or new reproduction..

It is a worthy project Andrew and if I can help in any way.............
Thank you very much Tony, I'm sure I'll run into at least a few bumps in the road ahead. I've already found one that has me puzzled. It seems like a simple problem but there's a larger flathead screw that holds the stock and the head of the screw is kind of damaged and my flathead keeps slipping out of the groove.. I'll have to figure out a way to get that out without causing damage to the gun itself.

Andrew,.....bring it back by and we'll take the screws out. Are you using gun specific screwdrivers or mechanic (regular) screwdrivers?

You don't need Chapman brand, but all gunsmith screwdrivers are like those..........

Damaged screws can be cleaned up and made near perfect usually and reblued....

I’ll bring it by the next time I’m off and let you look at the screw in question.

here are a few photos as promised. If I had some before pics from when I first picked it up you’d be able to tell just how much improvement has been made already.

FYI,A lot of parts/screws/springs for a Browning and Savage Humpback will work on your Model 11 since they are all produced off of J.M. Browning's design/patents.
I have a model 11 from 1906 that I re-worked many years ago,and even installed a set of aftermarket synthetic furniture on to keep the original wood furniture from getting damaged. I still hunt with it every year.

Remington Model 11's are great old guns. I wouldn't worry too much about the finish because they were meant to be an affordable alternative to the Auto 5, so they didn't have the same level of polish or grade of wood. They (Auto 5's included) can be a little finicky, but still good shooters and pretty much functionally the same as their Browning counterparts.
