I got a Marlin 336 for Christmas and was thinking a red dot would pair great with it for purposes of being a South Texas brush gun.

Which red dot and mount would you all recommend?

Congratulations on your new Marlin. There's no way I'd put a red dot on a lever action rifle.

I would, I could get lost in my backyard...

    :green:

I can but it involves a lot of vodak.

If you want an RDS, do it. I love them because they make purist heads explode. Kind of like 9mm 1911s.

I like my Sparc II. Don't think you can go wrong with a Vortex.

I decided that a red dot would make it more difficult to shoot precisely at 100+ yards.

I bought a Vortex 1-4 w/ illuminated reticle. Should be here tomorrow.
Hmm ... well allow me to introduce your 336's cousin: Blastphemy.

She was named by web forum consensus in a thread much like this'n. Blastphemy is defined as a big loop 45/70 lever gun with m-loc and 1-4 FFP glass.

Trust that even if they hate the aesthetic, they'll wanna mount it at the range.

When, with the right ammo,( Leverevolution ) you can make the realistic effective range of a 30-30 out to 250+ yards( and consistent 5 shot, 1” groups at 100) why wouldn’t you scope it?

That's why I have other rifles meant for scopes. Just doesn't seem right on my lever actions. A person can do what they prefer, it's not for me.

    Yes, I would concur........

But I have much better options for shots over 100 yds......I prefer my lever guns as designed, that's all....I don't like accessory rails on 1911's either......so....just shoot me now......lol....
