Cuz they almost never jam. Granted, I’ve only fired around 3000 rounds through my Glocks over the years, but they never jammed.

My first 1911 jammed at least every 5th round, but often on 3-4th round of literally every mag. I love the history and idea of the 1911. But it frustrated me enough to sell my 1911 and buy a Glock.
I have 1911pistols of different sizes, calibers and brands. Only one has had an issue. It took several trips to the range for my Ed Brown to complete breaking in, after which it has been a reliable, accurate pistol.

He’s joking in case you didn’t know it.

I 've been told by several Glock owners they rarely clean their gun. I can't imagine neglecting proper maintenance on my guns, whatever the brand. How can they expect their gun or their automobile to perform when needed if they ignore proper maintenance?

Define rarely? I'd clean the gun when new, then clean at 2.5k. go for another 2.5k, clean and replace RSA. Rinse and repeat.

Cleaning involved a detail strip, wipe everything down with a paper towel, clean the frame with the same paper towel as best i could, re-assemble and lube with TW25B. Outside was sprayed with either T9 or Hornady one shot, and left to dry. Barrel was cleaned ising a bore snake

Some believe proper maintenance is cleaning and lubing after every range trip. I perform maintenance on a pistol used for carry even though it has not been fired.

I read the first three, skipped the last five because it somehow hadn't devolved into Moonpie professing his undying love for all things Glock yet...

If I had $1000 saved up for a pistol I'd first ask "what am I using this for?"

If concealed carry - then something compact or smaller unless you're a big dude

If just home defense + range toy -- full size guns are often easier to shoot accurately.

Then naturally I'll dig into researching - like you're doing - and watch a bunch of gun porn videos, try wading thru the hype (do NOT watch a Sootch video expecting honest to god reviews - dude shills for even the crappiest gear & guns) and then pick some stuff out and try to fondle them and shoot them (range rentals) or see if I have friends who have them to try out.

    I'll say this:

The Walther PDP and PDP-F are great guns that can be had for $600-700 by themselves. Best pistol ergonomics *for me* of any of the guns out there. I loved mine.

The Smith & Wesson M&P line is my next favorite for shooting and ergonomics. Prior to the PDP they were my go-to guns. They run $500ish new, a lot less used.

The Beretta 92 is a great option if it fits your hands, the Vertec (straight backstrap vs og humped style) can help, and they did also make a single stack version (92M) that also fits slim hands better.

The Sig P-series guns are very good, with similar grip sizes to the Beretta 92 (the Sig 226 barely lost to Beretta's 92 when the US military adoped a new sidearm in the 80's) and you can get the full size P226 in 9, .40, or .357Sig - the P228 or 229 (same size, the 229 is a beefed up 228) - the P225 or 239 are single stacks (different enough that mags are not compatable) - all of them are terrific guns. US Navy and USAF issued Sigs - either the 226 or 228 mostly (226 for SEALS, 228's for pilots while the Navy version of MP's had the Beretta pistols) - the P226 was also the issued pistol for DPS troopers for a number of years, but in .357Sig flavor.

CZ-75's used to be cheap - now that the "secret" about them has been out for a decade and they're cool again (they always were, but they were discovered by gun-hipsters about 10 years ago so the cost shot way up) and now they run about $600-700 - they come in large or compact flavors, or even sub-compact with the RAMI version. They were adapted into polymer frame versions ala the P07 and P09.

The HK VP9 is another solid choice - and is the most user-customizeable grip right out the box - you can swap side panels and back straps to make the grip fit you as perfectly as possible.

Or, of course, you could make @Moonpie smile and buy yourself a Glock. They make about 50 different versions of the 9mm pistol from eenie weenie teensy tiny Glock 43 to the Glock 17L that takes up two time zones just like Texas. Just get a Glock 19 and you get smack dab in the middle - good size for concealed carry unless you're a midget, also big enough to suit a duty gun role for cops and security (NYPD has issued the Glock 19 since they switched from revolvers to semiautomatics for one example - just don't get an NYPD trigger equipped gun because it has a trigger pull of about a million pounds)

Well you have to remember, 1911 guys are too cultured to clean every 2,500 rounds. That's cave man stuff. Because of "tighter tolerances", you have to clean and lube after every range trip to experience the pure unadulterated joy of the 1911 platform, the gun that won TWO (not one) world wars.

That's of course AFTER the break-in period, which is a foreign concept to Glock users who can use their guns immediately and reliably out of the box, but definitely well known to the more cultured 1911 audience.

Thats nothing. Wait until you start messing with revolvers, and find out that certian rounds are so dirty they cause you to flub your reloads after only 200 rounds. :(
