Running on a S&W AR15. I currently have the Magpul, but it feels to thin and makes my angled foregrip feel too small. Would a quad rail with two rail guards on either side solve this problem, or least make a such a foregrip more comfortable? Recommendations for either the heavyweight alloy or a lighter rail?

Check out Aero Precision, they got drop in & free-floating options.

I agree there are more comfortable and lighter options but I really like the look of the quad rails. My Troy rail was purchased from a friend that is now deceased so it is invaluable to me.

My 20 inch that I use more than any other AR has knight quad rails and I have been looking at the full size magpul models. The weight difference is just too much to not do the magpul. The carbines are different, but full length rails are heavy as hell.

Then there are those who want a narrower grip, if you will:

Bravo Carbine B5 Systems Bravo Keymod Handguards

I bought mine from 2 Vets - Now available from Soldier Systems.

One of my AR's came with Magpul furniture - the handguard diameter was not to my like...to fat - so I swapped out for the above.

The Colt 6945 in my avatar is a monolithic quad rail with a 10.3” upper. It’s really heavy for as short as it is.
I also have a MK 12 Mod 1. It’s an 18” quad rail upper. It’s an awesome gun, but the quad rail just makes it a really heavy cheese grater. Avoid quad rails, there are better options.

I don't like VFG/AFG's, so take my opinion for what its worth.

Usgi A2 style is perfectly fine for 99% of uses, but if you want to have more flexibility with light and sling placement, get a longer free float handguard, preferably MLOK compatible. There are tons of options, Larue, BCM, Geissele, midwest industries, KAC, VLTOR, just to name a few
